(Excerpt, Sep. Chapter Newsletter):

You would not believe the beautiful day we had for Young Eagles on Saturday (Sept. 8th ). Mother Nature was looking out for us with two fabulous weekends in a row. To have perfect weather two days in a row for the air show on Labor Day weekend and then to turn around and have another perfectly, beautiful day for Young Eagles was almost too much to ask. This particular Young Eagles Saturday we actually had quite a few pilots, at least more than normal. Now all we needed were kids. As of Friday night, we only had 27 kids signed up. As it turned out, we ended up flying 54 kids, so we had 27 walk-ins that day!! This really helped all of our pilots get at least 10 kids flown so we could accumulate more points towards sending kids to the Air Academy camp. Here are the final pilot totals:

Once again, the Young Eagles Day would not be a success without the excellent job of coordinators Bill and Mary Jo Shain and Jim Cryer! Mary Jo was still getting phone calls at 10:00pm Friday night for kids wanting to sign up. Mary Jo has such an efficient system the day of the event; things seem to go like clockwork. Except, of course, when she takes a short break to grab lunch. Jim Cryer does a super job of getting all the kids pictures taken and printed out. The pictures we give the kids is definitely a neat memento for the kids, as well as the parents. The Young Eagles Day is also a huge success due to the many chapter members and family that help in the office and as ground crew. The system we have established with at least one ground crew member per pilot has really worked well. I think our chapter comes across as top notch in how we conduct our Young Eagles. Thanks to everyone that helped out! As everyone knows who comes out, hanging out with the kids and parents during Young Eagles is rewarding for everyone!
